How big is your toxic load? As you may or may not know, toxins are literally all around us. They lurk not just in your food (e.g. pesticides), but also in everyday household products.

Detoxification is vital, and although the body is highly capable of eliminating waste and toxins, modern living is overexposing us. Unavoidable environmental pollution, pesticides and chemicals like PBA in plastic continues to increase, so we need to work on decreasing our exposure to the toxins we are choosing to use.

Chemicals that are known carcinogens are found in everyday household products and can accumulate in the cells of the human body over time. Studies have shown that almost every chronic disease on the planet has links to toxicity. Reducing toxic load is also important for those of you wanting to lose weight, as the body stores toxins in fat cells. This is another reason why it can be incredibly hard to lose the bulge if you are already overweight, as the body will strongly resist toxins circulating back into the blood stream.

Although this information may be overwhelming, there are a number of ways to start reducing your toxic load. The goal should not to try and be 100% chemical free, but to reduce your overall chemical exposure. This is why we suggest focusing on the products that you are the most exposed to first.  Create a list of all the products you use on yourself and in your home and start prioritizing.

A few of the products to look at first are:
  • Body moisturizers (try virgin coconut oil instead)
  • Plastic water bottles (I’ve recently brought a stainless steel bottle, and the water tastes so much better, plus I’m saving money)
  •  Kitchen Sprays
  •  Sunscreens
  •  Deodorant (I personally have started using ‘Crystal Essence’, and it is AMAZING)
  • ANY baby products (make your own, or find a company which is committed to being chemical-free)
  • There really are so many products out there to substitute with, and you can also get creative by making your own at home.
